Key takeaways
- A candidate in control of the conversation: they start the call whenever they like, calm and prepared, even at 3am.
- A transparent voice agent, clear about the role, that answers questions and leaves the candidate reassured and more motivated.
- A better-structured process, with follow-up and an answer, where other recruitment processes leave candidates without news.
"The process was super smooth and really pleasant." Appoline, Project Manager at Wacano
After 5 years as a certified independent Notion consultant, Appoline joined Wacano as a Project Manager. She looks back on her journey as a candidate and on her first conversation with Alex, Omogen's AI agent.
An unusual job search, with its pitfalls
Appoline decided to start looking for a job in early summer 2026. She was searching for positions as a project manager, a digital project manager, or a Customer Success Manager.
But as everyone knows, job hunting is no walk in the park: even when well organised, Appoline describes how hard it is not to get discouraged by the great silence that followed a large share of her applications.
"So many applications with no reply, lost in the flood."
The start of a story with Wacano
The Project Manager position at Wacano was the first job she applied for. For her, it was a dream job:
"It's exactly what I wanted to do. I was completely ready to go back to being an employee for this kind of work."
Appoline sent her application through Indeed, followed 3 days later by first messages from Vivian, the director, via the platform. He invited her to book a time with Alex, Omogen's AI agent, for a first conversation.
A successful first experience of AI in recruitment
While Appoline used AI to help prepare her applications, she had never directly experienced its use in recruitment. So she had two distinct reactions to the idea of interacting with a voice agent:
- uncertainty. She says she was afraid of not being able to sell herself or interact naturally, as she would have with a recruiter.
- relief. Booking a slot with Alex meant a faster recruitment process, while staying in control of the time, the place and her level of preparation. No unexpected call, so less stress.
"I told all my friends and family about it, saying: 'It's incredible, I'm living in the future.'"
So it was on a Friday evening, in the comfort of her home, that Appoline started her prequalification call with Alex. Being calm, prepared and in control of the process helped her feel more at ease.
"It was a really great experience."
Appoline found the call quality very good: she felt well understood and got clear information about the role. The agent was able to answer her questions, or redirect her to Wacano for the longer-term aspects of the job.
After the call, she describes a positive feeling: reassured by how the interview went and confident that the role would suit her, she was even more motivated than before.
A better-structured process thanks to AI
One highly appreciated point is how clearly Wacano stated its use of an agent, as well as the transparency of the process. Comparing with another recruitment process started around the same time, Appoline calls it smoother and better structured. That other company gave her no follow-up for several weeks, before getting back to her to say they had forgotten to reply. "Not very nice", as Appoline puts it.
Using automation and a voice agent therefore informs candidates and improves their experience, rather than letting uncertainty hang over people who are sometimes actively waiting for an answer.
- candidates are looked after and get a chance for their application to speak for itself
- being able to prepare and stay in control of the interview: it's softer, more pleasant, even at 3am
What she takes away: taking recruitment back, and a motivation boost
Beyond having joined her dream job, Appoline praises her experience with Wacano and Omogen. Her feedback conveys a very strong sense of taking back control of recruitment and of making it less daunting: in short, enough to motivate candidates and let them show their potential.
"In a recruitment process that is already very stressful, it's softer and more pleasant to be in control of your own conversation."
She encourages HR teams to take the leap, to give every candidate a chance to speak up. In her view, it reflects on the company: it shows real consideration for candidates and genuine attention to their comfort.
